Northeast
Andrew Luberto
Greetings Fellow North East Judges!
The return of 1st round NHC in New York went off exceedingly well. Thank you to Katie Sloan and Andie Davies for expertly running the only site in our region. Hopefully, we’ll see the return of Boston (or other regional sites) again at some point. Jay Hersh, Katie Sloan, and myself were all on hand judging together as well as many of the areas’ experienced judges.
Speaking of well run competitions, congratulations to Paul Hayslett and SNERHC for being rated one of the best competitions in the country by the Master Homebrewer Program.
There’s a few sites in the coming months in our region running exams so check out the exam calendar if you are looking for a seat. Katie Sloan is also running a tasting exam in New York City on June 11th and I’ll be hosting a written exam site October 21st on Long Island.
On a final note, with my time as regional rep coming to an end, I’d like to thank all of the Northeast Judges for letting me represent you on the BJCP Board. I tried to honor the faith placed in me and abide by a commitment to do the best for the judges in our region – hopefully I succeeded. A special thank you to my Assistant Reps – Eric Cousineau, Jay Hersh, John Lee, and Katie Sloan – for their hard work, advice, and dedication. Congratulations to Max Finnance on his election to Regional Rep, I’ve known Max for quite a few years and I leave this position confident the Northeast is in capable hands. In my time on the board I’ve seen the organization make numerous much needed improvements and progress substantially in a positive direction. I look forward to seeing that progress continue from the sidelines while enjoying a good beer (hopefully with many of you).
Cheers!

Quick update from the Midwest region. I and one of my assistant Reps, Leah Dienes, just returned from Nashville, TN where we served as World Beer Cup judges. It was great to see and catch up with other BJCP judges from around the world who were here serving as judges and stewards.
We were very happy that the National Homebrew Competition First Rounds returned this year. There were First Rounds in Indianapolis, Chicago, and Kansas City. Thanks to all of the judges who participated. And thanks to the 6 other First Round sites!
We just had the BOSS Charlie Orr Memorial Competition up in the western Chicago suburbs.
I hope to see you all at Homebrew Con in San Diego and we invite all experienced Certified and above judges to sign up to judge the National Homebrew Competition’s Final Round. Experienced Mead and Cider judges too!
