The Exam Directorate is working to clear a significant backlog with open exams. Currently the Exam team has 36 exams in the active grading process, 29 exams being translated or awaiting translation and 15 exams that are awaiting available graders. We’ve closed 18 exams since December 2022. For any National or above judges, we need more volunteers for grading. If you are already a grader, to volunteer for a set please fill in this form. If you would like to become a grader, please see How do I become a grader? on the BJCP website for information on joining our team.
We have started grading Spanish exams without translation utilizing native Spanish speaking graders and exam staff. Six of our current 36 exams in the grading process are being evaluated in Spanish. We plan to expand this to Portuguese soon. If you are an active grader with Spanish or Portuguese language skills, please let the Exam Directors know.
The exam team is also discussing changes to the tasting and written exams that would allow examinees to type exams or otherwise complete them online. This has been piloted at an exam in Bratislava, Slovakia with very positive results. Once we clear the grading backlog, we can progress this initiative.
