By Sarah Bridegroom, Exam Director
Understandably, numerous exams have been affected by COVID-19. Over 50 exams to date have experienced some type of effect – postponement, rescheduling, or in some cases cancellation when affected by a related, large scale event. We’ll continue to coordinate with sites as best we can to administer calendar requests while also monitoring overall capacity.
Upcoming Grading
One consequence of COVID-related rescheduling is that recent grading demand has been somewhat low. However, we expect an increase in activity in upcoming months and are hopeful that graders that have volunteered time in recent months can do so again in the near future. The second half of this year is scheduled with a higher volume of exams than is typically handled, so we anticipate additional grading opportunities to be available. Thank you for your support.
New Exam Scanning Protocol
The American Homebrewers Association (AHA) no longer provides exam scanning service to the BJCP due to reduced AHA staffing caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Given the overwhelming majority of exam administrators already providing scans, the BJCP has adopted the protocol of accepting scanned exams directly from exam administrators. If you currently have an exam scheduled as an administrator, but anticipate being unable to address this portion of exam administration, contact the exam directorate to discuss plans. Thank you to the AHA for offering this service to the BJCP and its membership for many years.
**Editor’s Note: While not specifically endorsed by the BJCP there are many scanning apps which may be useful in providing scans to the Exam Directorate. Camscanner, Genius Scan, and Scanbot SDK are three such examples – there are many more.**
