Members,
During the uncertainty and height of the pandemic, the BJCP paused enforcement of the activity requirements to maintain active judge status, notifying members that we would give them ample time to record activity on their judge record before we started to mark judges inactive again. As the pandemic moves into an endemic stage and competitions and exams are once again filling our calendars, we will resume monitoring judge records for activity after June 30, 2023. The period between now and then is ample time for judges to identify and participate in a competition, including next year’s National Homebrew Competition at Homebrew Con in San Diego in June 2023.
So, starting July 1, 2023, to remain an active judge, members must:
- Have recorded judging, stewarding, competition organizing, grading, or other activity that added judging or non-judging points to their judge record AFTER June 30, 2021,
- OR have updated their contact information in the BJCP judge record AFTER June 30, 2021.
While we prefer that judges remain active by keeping their skills current by participating in competitions, we allow updates to the judge records to main active as well. If you have any questions about this, please contact your regional rep or myself. As always, remember that judge rank will never be impacted by active/inactive status; inactive status 1) removes the judge from contact lists sent to competition organizers and 2) makes the member ineligible for voting in BJCP elections. Please see this prior post on more info regarding active status.
Cheers,
Dennis Mitchell
BJCP President
