To register for a judging/tasting exam (beer, mead, or cider), or the Beer Written Exam (for National judges or those with an 80+ score on the beer judging exam), look at the Exam Calendar. Once you find an exam location and date, contact the listed Exam Administrator. Some exams are over-subscribed well in advance, and you may be placed on a waiting list. Do not wait until the last minute to register. Note that quarterly written exams have no participant limit, but must be registered for in advance.
To register for a beer, mead, or cider online entrance exam, go to Coursewebs. Online exams can be taken once per day, but we suggest taking time to study before retaking after a failed attempt. Passing an online exam allows an examinee to register for a judging exam, but does not grant membership in the BJCP.
- NOTE: Once you pass an online entrance exam, you have two years to sit for a judging exam (see step 3 below). We recommend that you secure a spot to take an exam before passing the online exam. Otherwise, if you cannot find an open exam seat within two years, you may have to retake the online exam.
