Online Entrance Exam Requirements
All participants taking a BJCP Entrance Examination of any type (beer, mead, or cider) do not have to meet any prerequisites. The entrance examinations are open to BJCP and non-BJCP members.
Beer Judging Exam Requirements
All participants taking the BJCP Beer Judging Examination must have either passed the web-based BJCP Beer Judge Entrance Examination or scored at least 60% on the written portion of the BJCP Legacy Beer Examination.
Mead Judging Exam Requirements
All participants taking the BJCP Mead Judging Examination must have either passed the web-based BJCP Mead Judge Entrance Examination or scored at least 60% on the written portion of the BJCP Legacy Mead Examination.
Cider Judging Exam Requirements
All participants taking the BJCP Cider Judging Examination must have passed the web-based BJCP Cider Judge Entrance Examination.
Beer Written Proficiency Exam Requirements
All participants taking the BJCP Beer Written Proficiency Examination must have at least 10 judging experience points and meet ONE of the following criteria:
- A score of at least 80% on the BJCP Beer Judging Examination
- A score of at least 80% on the written portion of the BJCP Beer Legacy Examination
- Be a current BJCP National Judge (achieved under any system)
Exam Eligibility
Exam participants should bring proof of eligibility to the exam. For tasting exams, proof of legal drinking age in the jurisdiction where the exam is being held is required, as well as proof of passing a qualifying exam (BJCP ID for existing judges, BJCP certificate or email confirmation of passing the online exam). For written exams, a BJCP ID is required.
Any exam submitted to the BJCP for grading that was written by an ineligible participant as of the date of the exam will not be graded and the exam fee will not be refunded.
