by Gordon Strong, Mid-Atlantic Region Rep and BJCP President
At year end, the Mid-Atlantic region consisted of 874 active BJCP Judges (11 Grand Master, 10 Master, 88 National, 448 Certified, and 300 Recognized) with 30 Mead Judges and 25 Exam Graders. Within the region, we held 17 exams and 71 competitions in 2017.
There were 141 promotions within the region. I’d like to highlight the ones for senior ranks:
Dave Justice, Grand Master II
Fred Mullner, Master
Alex Spencer, Master
Brian Kinzie, National
Christian Layke, National
Matt Shurtz, National
I want to remind everyone of my three assistant representatives that help cover our region:
Malcolm Frazer, Pittsburgh area
Andy Hejl, Philadelphia area
Brian Bergquist, Virginia area
I live in Western Ohio, so between the four of us, we are spread out within the region.
If you wonder about what we do or how we can help, here are some of the typical things we do for members:
- Be a local area touch point, engage at competitions and events (general discussions)
- Help with exams and competitions (finding resources, organizing, supporting)
- Access to BJCP resources (help you find things you need or get in touch with the right people)
- Questions answered (how to do things, advice; questions about competitions, guidelines, where to find information, contacts, etc.)
- Deal with issues and complaints (help resolving problems, escalating issues)
- Maintain contacts lists of other local resources and people who can help
- Collect ideas and suggestions for improvement
- Identify and mentor high potential individuals, recruit volunteers for BJCP work
Those are just some of the things we do. Basically, if you have a question about the BJCP, feel free to talk to any of us. We’re here to help.
