- BJCP Exams. 9am. Beer Judging, Mead Judging and Beer Written Exams will be offered. All exams will be given simultaneously. To sign up for an exam, contact the appropriate exam administrator listed below. Location: Oregon Ballroom 203/4.

- BJCP Judge Reception. 12pm to 4pm. Luncheon and speakers talking about hops. Price is US$28 for BJCP members, US$48 for guests. Guests must be registered at the same time as their BJCP host. Registration is now closed.
- Talk: “Dry-hopping research at OSU – a peak into the Shellhammer lab” – Thomas Shellhammer, Ph. D., Oregon State University.
- Dr. Thomas Shellhammer is the Nor’Wester Endowed Professor of Fermentation Science in the Department of Food Science and Technology at Oregon State University where he leads the brewing science education and research programs. His brewing research investigates hops and beer quality and the origins of hop aroma and flavor in beer. Dr. Shellhammer received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis in 1996 and worked as Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University before moving to Oregon State University in 2001. During the 2008-2009 academic year while on sabbatical leave from OSU he worked as Guest Professor at the Technical University of Berlin and as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow. He has served as the President of the American Society of Brewing Chemists and the President of the District NW Master Brewers Association of the Americas. He currently serves on the Board of Examiners for the Institute of Brewing and Distilling, London, England.
- Talk: “Ten Expert Tips for Making Better American Hoppy Beers” – Ben Edmunds, Breakside Brewery, Portland, OR.
- Ben is the brewmaster at Breakside Brewery in Portland, Oregon, where he oversees the company’s production brewery and two pub breweries. As founding brewer of Breakside, he helped grow the company from a small brewpub into a successful regional brewery. Under Ben’s leadership, Breakside has won many medals at international competitions, including 8 World Beer Cup awards and 13 Great American Beer Festival medals since 2011. Educated at the Siebel Institute and Yale University, he is a former President of the Oregon Brewers Guild, a judge at the Great American Beer Festival, a founder of the Oregon Beer Awards, and a visiting lecturer at Lewis & Clark College. He often speaks on the topics of American hoppy beers, sour beers, brewery leadership and management, and barrel-aging.

Final Round Judging for the National Homebrew Competition will occur in three judging sessions: 8 a.m., 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. If you have entries in NHC, indicate your availability to judge or steward by signing in and editing your brewer’s profile. If you do not have entries in NHC, you must create an account to judge or steward.
