Communicating About Beer

Beer judges need to be able to communicate about beer with others. That communication requires a good beer vocabulary and the ability to write succinctly about beer.

Beer Judging

The experience of critically evaluating beer provides the framework to judge beer well and excel on the Judging Exam. The references cited can supplement personal practice time, classroom or group study, and practical competition experience.

Basic Tasting and Judging Experience

1. BJCP Beer Faults. A short version of the Troubleshooting section of this guide, based on BJCP scoresheet descriptors.
2. BJCP Classic Styles Scoresheets with Audio. Based on 2008 Style Guidelines but tasting approaches are relevant. The related course is unfinished and now obsolete.
